May has arrived at Burcot Court, bringing with it brighter skies, warmer days and gardens full of fresh colour. As spring settles in properly and we move closer towards summer, it is a lovely time to enjoy the sunshine when it appears, notice the flowers coming into bloom and make the most of the simple pleasures of the season.
This month’s Burcot Court Companion captures that feeling perfectly, with a warm welcome to May and a reminder that “brighter days are not just coming — they are already here.”
There is plenty happening around the court this month, from social events and shared meals to owner-led groups, articles, puzzles and community updates. May’s edition includes the monthly menu, social calendar, news and articles, as well as a wordsearch puzzle themed around spring and May Day traditions.
One of the lovely updates this month is the welcome of Diane to the Duty Managers Team. Diane brings a warm and friendly approach and will be supporting the smooth running of the court alongside the wider team. Residents, families and visitors are encouraged to say hello and give her a very warm Burcot Court welcome.
May is also a month rich in tradition. The Companion looks at the history of May Day, from flowers, garlands and maypole dancing to the celebration of spring and community. It also marks VE Day on 8 May, offering a thoughtful reflection on remembrance, gratitude and the importance of preserving memories for future generations.
Community life continues to be at the heart of Burcot Court. The new owner-led groups are a wonderful example of this, including the “Let’s Share It” discussion group and the Classical Music Group. These gatherings give owners the chance to come together, enjoy shared interests and bring new ideas into the court’s social life.
There are also plenty of social events to look forward to throughout May, including 20 Questions with wine and nibbles, film nights, afternoon tea, carpet bowls and tapas night. As always, residents are reminded to book required events through the office and to bring their booklet when booking or cancelling meals and activities.
Food is another important part of the month, with May’s menu offering a wide variety of lunches and evening meals. The Companion also reminds us of the joy of eating together — how a meal can become more than just food, but a chance to chat, laugh, share stories and enjoy one another’s company.
This month’s edition also includes helpful reminders about staying safe from scams by email, phone and post, encouraging everyone to pause, check and ask for help if something feels unusual or too good to be true. It is a practical and important reminder that anyone can be targeted, and there is never any need to feel embarrassed about asking for support.
As the days grow brighter, May is a lovely opportunity to enjoy a little fresh air, whether that means sitting in the garden, taking a gentle walk, opening a window or simply noticing the sights and sounds of spring. At Burcot Court, these small moments — a chat in the sunshine, a smile in the corridor, a shared cup of tea — are part of what makes the community feel so warm and welcoming.
Here’s to a May filled with colour, conversation, kindness and good company at Burcot Court.
