Duty Manager (Part-Time – 19.5 Hours Per Week)
Following the retirement of our long-serving postholder, Burcot Court is seeking a committed and capable Duty Manager to join our team.
Burcot Court is an independent living retirement community for Owners aged 60+. Managed by Burcot Court Ltd and overseen by a resident Board of Directors, we are entering an exciting phase of independent management and are looking for someone who will play a key leadership role in our day-to-day operations.
About the Role
The Duty Manager is the senior member of staff while on shift and is responsible for the smooth running of the Court. The role combines team leadership, hospitality oversight, emergency response, and operational management.
Key responsibilities include:

Supervising Housekeeping Assistants and other staff on duty

Supporting Owners in emergencies and ensuring their safety and wellbeing

Acting as host/hostess in the dining room and overseeing catering standards

Liaising with contractors and overseeing day-to-day maintenance matters

Supporting social events and fostering a vibrant community environment
-
Managing administrative and financial tasks including petty cash and records
-
Ensuring compliance with health & safety and safeguarding procedures
This is a varied and responsible position requiring professionalism, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills.
Working Hours
This is a contracted role of 19.5 hours per week, worked on a shift rota including:

Early shift: 8am – 3pm

Late shift: 3pm – 10pm, followed by overnight on-call 10pm – 7am (sleeping on site unless emergency callout), with 7am – 8am on-site office cover the following morning
An overnight allowance is paid for on-call shifts, with additional payment for any emergency callouts.
Pay & Benefits

£14.70 per hour

12.07% holiday pay

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:

Has experience working with older people, ideally within a retirement, hospitality, health, or care-related setting
-
Has previous leadership or supervisory experience

Is confident managing staff and daily operations
-
Is calm under pressure and capable in emergency situations
-
Has excellent customer service and communication skills
-
Is respectful, discreet, and professional at all times
Experience within a retirement community or independent living environment would be particularly welcome.
Training & Development
Mandatory training will be provided, including first aid, fire safety, safeguarding, and health & safety. Ongoing professional development is supported.
